Wakefield Wildcats Netball Club was founded in 2005 by Diane Guy and Emma Ward with only one U16 and one Senior Team. We now have over 200 players registered at the club from the age of 6 to very old! No-one is too old to play and enjoy netball at our club. We have the most amazing team of coaches and backroom volunteer staff who are totally dedicated to the inclusive and community ethos of the club. We are able to meet the needs of our most talented players as well a those who are still developing their basic netball skills.
The Freeston Academy in Normanton, Wakefield is the home of Wakefield Wildcats netball club and Wednesday and Thursday evenings see a hub of activity. All teams play in the West Yorkshire Senior and Junior Leagues as well as in many other local leagues.
In 2014 the club was voted Outstanding Club of the Year in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region and narrowly missed out on the national award. However 2015 has been the most special year as it is our 10th Anniversary and finally our Senior 1st team was promoted to the West Yorkshire Super-league. We are so proud of this because the majority of our players are home grown. There was also many other successes with other promotions and achievements throughout the whole club.
The growth of the senior section is a direct result of the success of junior section and those players seamlessly transferring to open age netball. This year a group of 64 junior players and coaches had an amazing tour to Paris, bringing home plenty of silverware. There is an abundance of talent in the junior section with players represented at the Regional Academy, County Academy, County Satellite, Wakefield and Leeds District and the Yorkshire Jets Athlete Development Programme.
